Attended the last briefing for the overseas trip today in school and to present the Sydney itinerary to everyone. Looking forward to the trip next week.
Did some shopping over at Tampines Mall before heading down to Orchard Road to meet up with sisters. Took a while at the boutique choosing my clothes. At the end of the day, bought a few long sleeve shirts and pants.
Had our dinner at Breeks! - The American Restaurant over at Takashimaya. Had Cajun Blacken Fish and Brownie with ice cream. Great food over there.
Pretty tired, I guess I'll stop here.

Please Mr Postman
The joy of online shopping is derived from the anxious wait for the goods arrival. For the past few days, I've been waiting eagerly for the delivery of my two new gizmos.
Have a feeling from today's call from Ms. Yvonne Ng that she's going to be my liaison officer for the upcoming internship. I guess it's good in a way since I know her style from previous experience with her as my tutor.
Came back from a cafe session with Ling and Ron. Might be going Bangkok with them this year. Need to see how's thing goes before committing to this trip.
Leaving for Melbourne next week and I'm still unprepared. Lazy me.

Goodbye, life.
A few months ago, I come to know of this blog, dyingis.blogspot.com. The author of the blog, Grace Chow, documented her life in waiting of death as she has a recalcitrant tumour in the neck. From her blog, you can actually feel the loneliness she's in while waiting indefinitely for death to arrive.
Sadly, she passed away peacefully on 6th December 2004.
In today The New Paper, an article bought my mind back to Grace Chow.
Madam Florence Heng, suffered from final stage of cancer, spreading from her breast to her liver. She has been preparing for her imminent death, from designing her obituary to the photos and music that would be used during her funeral.
I have nothing but admiration for such people who are courageous enough to embrace life until the very last minute.
To Nadia and Faith who are flying off to Vietnam today, bon voyage and enjoy yourself over there.

Travel journal
Was reading thru my sister's travel journal on her previous trip to Australia. I was, "wow! You actually wrote a journal!" when she sent it to me. Almost daily, my sisters have been providing me with resources thru email. I'm pretty excited about it as a matter of fact.
Her journal was filled with detail, you can actually know how's the place is like just by reading it.
It just occurred to me that I have yet to get my wardrobe filled with formal clothes. The timely invitation from my sister for a shopping trip might be just the right time to shop for my formal wear.
What's on my calender? Student Internship Programme (SIP) Launch Day next week and departing Singapore for Melbourne on the sunday of that week.

Condensing Sydney in 2 days
Never once do I have to plan for overseas trips, even for Malaysia trips with my friends, everything was impromptu. Now, for the study trip, my group have to plan the activities we're having over at Sydney.
Guess I won't be able to have an early night with so much things to plan. Fortunately, I have a little backup from sisters and library's resources. James' Sydney project could be of some help for tomorrow's presentation.

A day to remember.
Spanglish, a movie which I thought was a plain ol' comedy turn up to be an interesting movie that depict the true world we are facing now - The loss of our self identity.
Many occasions, in our pursue for the finer aspect of life, we tend to forsake our own identity and self-worth. The climax of the show depicts this trend, which was the touching scene of which, Flor (Paz Vega) rejected the scholarship given to her daughter as she believes it will rob her daughter of her ethnic root.
An excellent movie that's worth every single dollar. Definitely on my DVD collection list.
The BIT Interest Group gathering was fantastic! After all these time in the interest group, it's only now that I'm pretty close with the people there. Lecturers were there too. We should have gatherings more often, it's a pity that this is the last gathering for the incumbent committee and members.
It was a pretty weird idea to barbecue during the afternoon with the blazing sun adding on to the heat. Nevertheless, we still have our fun over there.
At the end of the barbecue, arranged transport to Mr. Peh's house for another round of gathering. We sure have lots of fun over there with the mini casino setup for us. We have roulette, blackjack, manjong and more casino-style card games.
Some of us watched Phantom of the Opera while the rest played manjong. The movie is incredible!
As much as I want to stay on, there isn't any ATM nearby to pay for my midnight taxi charge, so left early fifteen minutes before 1 in the morning in dad's car.
Heard from many of them that auto car practical can be completed in less than 13 lessons. Sort of aroused my interest, maybe I'll take up practical lesson during my internship.

Impressed.
Straight after dinner, headed to Sim Lim Square to meet up with Mr. Peh and the rest of the guys. I'm expecting quite a feast from the amount of food we bought.
His place is pretty stylish and modern, very much like a small hotel room except it's pretty messy. His collection of DVDs makes your neighbourhood video store look puny.
Watched the Amazing Race on cable and Sarah Brightman concert after helping out.
Gonna tuck in early, helping out again in school for the barbecue. bonne nuit.

Panic Attack!
Gosh, never once have I been so worried! I was looking at photos taken with my friends on my computer until I realize I haven't been seeing my digital camera for awhile.
There comes the panic attack when I couldn't find it in my bag. Then, I remembered, the chalet! I was so freaking scared at that moment, the chalet was over since last thursday!
Ah, finally found it safe and sound in my bookshelf.
The controversial issue of legalising casino in Singapore finally comes to a conclusion today. Watched Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong delivered his speech this afternoon, the result wasn't much of a surprise, in fact, I expected the Government to give a go.
Extracts from his speech,
The question we have to consider is: will Singapore be part of this new world, or will we be bypassed and left behind?
We cannot stand still. The whole region is on the move. If we do not change, where will we be in 20 years’ time?
... which is that we are not considering a casino, but an IR – an integrated resort.
We seriously considered banning Singaporeans altogether from gambling in the IRs, but decided against it.
First, we will restrict the admission of locals. We studied many alternative ways to do this, and finally decided to use price, and charge a high entrance fee, $100 per day or $2,000 a year.
Personally, I'm supportive of the Government decision on the basis of economic survival and remaining competitive globally.

Down Syndrome Awareness Day
It was an enriching experience volunteering for Singapore Down Syndrome Assocation (DSA) today. A change from the art company I volunteered for, The Necessary Stage.
This year DSA Flag day was held in conjunction with Down Syndrome Awareness Day, having a roadshow outside Takashimaya.
Got the chance to know Jean, the manager in charge of me. She simply amazes me with her colorful personality and strong character. A tour guide during the day, photography as a hobby, and caring for her daughter with Down Syndrome.
Having a daughter with Down Syndrome, instead of submitting to fate, she was determined to let her leads a life as normal as she could. As a matter of fact, her daughter performed during Temasek Polytechnic's 15th Anniversary.
Being the supervisor of four schools, I got the chance to see for myself the undesirable conduct of some students.
Before I continue, let me make myself clear that I'm not trying to be judgmental. Having volunteered for flag day myself, I always ensure my tin are full, if not, at least three-quarter full.
Let me start off with this boys' school located in the east of Singapore. Students returning tins an hour after they signed in and handling in near empty tins. It makes me wonder what's the school has been teaching them for the last three years.
Of course, there are schools that are worthy of my praise, Broadrick Secondary School and Dunman High School.
Was invited to an Appreciation Dinner, but guess I won't be attending since it falls on the day I'm in Australia.

Friday again.
Late for trip's briefing again, not any better than last briefing, 2 hours late. To be appointed the leader of the group and yet miss out on the trip's details, I felt pretty bad about it.
After making the final payment for the trip at the school's travel agency, joined James and Jack for lunch at the nearby Mary Brown Restaurant. Got to know that Jack plays DOTA too and I bet he's pretty good at it.
Playing a new game - Act of War to pass the time by, reminds me of Command and Conquer, games are becoming more realistic, having actors to act in scenes.

Ling's chalet
Spent a night over at Ling's chalet, even though there's only three of us, after Max left, we still have an enjoyable night. Somehow, the chalet's mood isn't there, I suppose it's due to the lack of people staying over. But still, it's alright, I understand their reason for not staying over.
Took a cab down to Changi Village for the famous Nasi Lemak and *ahem* take a walk around. Yeah, you get the drift. Along the way back, encountered a police road block, the policeman asked us, "What are you doing in Changi Village?". The two of them were stunned by the question. Supper is the magic word to get us out. *laugh*
Bad weather on the second day, heavy rainfall during the evening. Got a free ride from Dad to Downtown East. Bigger crowd this time with Xin Yu and Max. Although it was still drizzling, we still manage to start the fire for the barbeque.
Downtown East changed alot since my last visit, bigger space, new coat of paint and xbox in each room.
Didn't stay over for the second night, didn't bring extra clothes and besides, I have a appointment the next day at Police Academy.
Pretty tired from the lack of sleep from the first night of chalet, gonna get some rest now. Bonsoir.

A busy week during vacation.
Had a good chat with my sister in the afternoon. Talked about the recent development in my life, internship and overseas study trip. Future workplace pretty convienent for me, direct bus from home, plenty of places for lunch and best of all, working in the city! It's gonna be boring for me if I'm sent to some rural part of the island.
Any french culture lover interested in catching a movie the week after next at Alliance Francaise de Singapour? Might be making a trip down to catch Agents Secrets. Here's the synopsis:

Boring saturday
Boring saturday, spent the day reading Da Vinci Code. At the last chapter, not going to give my conclusion of the book before I finish it.
Bought a new computer casing, Coolermaster Centurion 5. Now thinking where do I start moving my parts over to the new casing.
Going for Ling's chalet next week, pretty small for the number of people invited, but should be fun over there.

The wind of change
Been only two weeks of vacation and my course has underwent so much changes. Mr Benedict Fernandez was promoted to Course Manager, a promotion I had expected eariler with Ms. Lai promotion to Deputy Director. However, I did not expect him to be the one replacing Ms. Lai. Ahhh, there's more to come, the wind of change in the air.
Received my results on my way to school. Kinda expected that kind of result, happy and disappointed, though the disappointed one aren't really important to me. Average at best, GPA still at a healthy level. Nothing much to talk about, work hard and progress on.
In school for Australia study trip briefing, more year 2 students than the year 1 and 3. I suppose that's the reason why the Year 2 students were able to push back their internship for the trip.
Another long chat with Mr. Peh with James and Jack after the briefing. We spent two hours chatting over a range of topics, from internship to law, simply amazing. My interest in the study trip rises from zero to full enthusiasm after the chat.

Spent a quiet moment at Ya Kun Kaya Toast. I guess kaya toast and tea is in my blood, I'm a hainanese after all.

Look! I got a job!
Been awhile since I spend my time on a good book. Now I finally have a book to spend the vacation with. Yao Sheng loaned me a copy of The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, it's fascinating, totally. Paris actually offers a city tour of the places mentioned in the book, from here, you can see how popular this book is.
Aha! I got a job offer at TNT, an international logistics firm. This come to me so unexpectedly, I wasn't even preparing to work during this vacation! Besides, even if I'm interested, it's too late to find a job now with my internship starting next month.
Anyway, I'm just working for a few days, yet expected to be dressed in formal. Not that I mind, but will need to rush back home for a change of clothes for my chalet on the last day.

Met up with Yao Sheng and Sharon today to fix up Yao Sheng's new computer. Had our dinner at Chomp Chomp (Serangoon Garden). Quite a feast over there, all thanks to Yao Sheng for the treat.

Urban Escape
Been a week since my exams, the first week of vacation was pretty productive, movies at home, household chores, etc.
The Australia study trip is confirmed, though I'm not looking forward ot it, I'll just go instead of inconveniencing my lecturers by backing out at this last minute.
Watch House of Fury and Hostage at the comfort of my house. Not as bad as I thought after reading the review from The Newpaper.
Watched this local documentary, Urban Escape, today. Introduced several locations to escape from the rush of urban life. Maybe I should make my way down to Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve and Kanji War Memorial.
Fixing up Peter's new computer the next day. Gonna do some preparation work now. Au revoir.

A walk down memory lane
Spent a peaceful saturday spent with dad. Had our late afternoon tea at a indian coffeeshop near Rosyth Road. Pretty good prata and tea over there.
Drove around Rosyth Road with dad, looking at the show flat for developing apartments and private houses. It was a walk down memory lane, still remember fondly how I used to travel on the same road home every saturday. It's only on saturday that I'm able to walk home myself, since weekdays I have the comfort of a school bus.
I miss the innocent fun I had back then in primary school, it was totally a different me.
Resumed my part time IT work today. Pretty stressful with the workload I have to handle today. Staring into my monitor for hours, chucking out data into a PHP system, I'm just so sick of it.
My sister shared with me about the working environment at the organisation I'm having my internship. Pretty alright I guess. There's a gym for employees, hope it's open to interns like me.

It was a walk down memory lane, still remember fondly how I used to travel on the same road home every saturday. It's only on saturday that I'm able to walk home myself, since weekdays I have the comfort of a school bus.
I miss the innocent fun I had back then in primary school, it was totally a different me.
Resumed my part time IT work today. Pretty stressful with the workload I have to handle today. Staring into my monitor for hours, chucking out data into a PHP system, I'm just so sick of it.
My sister shared with me about the working environment at the organisation I'm having my internship. Pretty alright I guess. There's a gym for employees, hope it's open to interns like me.

Simple moment of life.
Back to school for the Down Syndrome Association Flag Day briefing, oh, saw Faith in school, gee, wonder what she's up to.
Late as usual, entered the lecture hall without the slightest idea what's going on. I swear I left the house one hour early, seems like every road I travel, I'll surely encounter traffic congestion.
Briefing was so brief, I rather they provide us the instructions via email. Had a crash course on Down Syndrome and the Down Syndrome Association. Food for thought, do you know Down Syndrome is caused by an extra chromosome during conception?
Collected my spectacles and took the chance to window shop alone. Spent the evening chillin' out at Ya Kun Yaya Toast with their delicious kaya toast and coffee.
Sometimes, the simplest moment can be enjoyable provided you know how to appreciate it.

MeetingYoungMinds@BIT
Had the opportunity to attend MeetingYoungMinds@BIT, a seminar showcasing the final year projects of BIT students and talk by members of the industry. Come to know about it from Yi Quen but didn't know it's today until Max reminded me.
It's quite an interesting seminar, especially the speech given by Mr Seah Liang Chiang, Managing Director of DSC Holdings Pte Ltd, which was very inspiring, and Ms Lim Mui Huang, Human Resources Manage of TNT Express Worldwide.
Jiarong, a third year student, was there to share his experience on Startup@BIT. Most of the BIT Interest Group members should know him and his startup peers, helpful people they are.
After the seminar, headed to 5th floor to view the final year projects with Max. Didn't have a chance to view most of the projects, everyone squeezing in the constrained laboratories.
Had lunch with Max, Ronald and Ling at School of Design. Saw Ms. Sharon Gan and Rita, the 2 subject leaders for ORDB and SAND respectively.
Headed to Century Square to get my lens replaced. Darn, freaking expensive. Sigh, there goes my saving for a new frame.
Chatted with Ms. Phyllis Chong on the Australia study trip. Apparently, we are short of people to go on the trip. Frankly speaking, it's fine with me if the trip is cancelled, it's a bad time to travel having to delay my internship.
Back to school tomorrow for briefing. Maybe I'll catch a movie - In Good Company, after that.
